Green School Committee

The Green schools have been working for the past 2 years on attaining our travel flag. This flag involves reducing carbon emissions from travel and encouraging students to cycle or walk to school.

  • We have had a number of guest speakers including Mr Hayes who spoke to us about cycling and a representative from Mercedes who brought an electric car down to the school for us to discuss.
  • We held competitions with each year group where those who cycled to school would be entered into a raffle.
  • We put up posters throughout the school to encourage public transport, carpooling, walking and cycling.
  • We had a speaker from Kildare County Council who spoke about global warming to the whole school.
  • We conducted a cycle audit of the cycle lanes in Kildare Town. We worked with the Tidy Towns and picked up litter from all the approaches to the school.
  • We also plan to plant a tree in the school grounds this year and go on our green school walk.
