U16 Boys Are All-Ireland Champions!

Our KTCS U16 boys basketball team absolutely smashed it in the All-Ireland Schools Cup U16 ‘C’ Final in January 2024. Facing off against Terenure College at the National Basketball Arena, the lads kept their heads cool and ran away with a 61–41 win. The energy in the arena was unreal, and every single player gave it their all.

Ciaran Daly, our co-captain, led the team brilliantly, scoring when it mattered and keeping everyone motivated. Charlie Dunny was named MVP of the final, hitting some insane shots and taking control of the game whenever KTCS needed a spark. Ife Ojo, our other co-captain, played smart and calm, defending like a rock and guiding the team through tough moments. David Cojacaru was consistent all game, grabbing rebounds and making crucial steals. Liam Flynn was hustling on defense, and keeping things going with passing and rebounds. Alex Dunne played smart, helping control the pace and making sure the team stayed composed, while Cillian Ajimokun hit clutch baskets and kept the points going up also grabbing big rebounds.

Of course, basketball is a team game, and the rest of the lads were massive contributors as well. Jamie Wall, Adrian Safian, Cillian Skelly, Fisolami Adeogun, and Evidence Usenbor all gave everything on the court, whether it was defending, grabbing rebounds, or just pushing the team forward. Their energy, effort, and support were huge in making this win possible. Every single player played their part, and it really showed that KTCS is more than just a team — it’s a squad that works together, fights together, and wins together.

This is a first-ever All-Ireland title for KTCS in any sport, and it’s safe to say the school is buzzing with pride. Coaches Brigid Lalor and Deirdre Doyle couldn’t be prouder of how the team performed. Every player, from the starters to those coming off the bench, showed heart, dedication, and team spirit.

Final Score: KTCS 61 – Terenure College 41.
MVP: Charlie Dunny.

KTCS basketball is officially on the map, and we cant wait to see whats next for these talented players.

2nd Years are the Midlands Basketball Champions

Ms Barry and Mr Kelly would like to congratulate the 2nd Year boys’ basketball team on winning the Midlands C final in Portlaoise on March 13th. The boys were looking forward to playing against Moate CS who had beaten them in last year's final by 1 point.

The game began well for KTCS with Conor McGovern scoring 3 excellent early baskets and Matiss Zaharius adding another. They lead 8-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. Baskets from Corey Flynn, Diarmuid Critchley and Thomas Murphy increased the lead to 16-6 at half time.

Moate came back strong in the 3rd quarter and although Conor and Eoin Breen registered some good baskets the lead was reduced to 4 points heading into the final quarter 20-16. The final quarter was nail biting and KTCS had to dig deep to stay on top. Corey Flynn, Jack O'Neill and Eoin Breen scored vital baskets but with 10 seconds left on the clock Moate equalled the score at 26-26. Corey Flynn was fouled under the basket with 5 seconds left on the clock and showed nerves of steel to score one of his shots and win the title for KTCS.

Thanks to Ms Lalor, Calvin Phillips, Sean Mc Govern, Niall Donnelly and Ian Knight for giving up their time to help out and thanks to Chris O’Mahoney, James Ebbs, Marvin Abdula and William Tsang for their support.

Team:

Eoin Breen (c) Aaron Dunne (vc) Corey Flynn, Diarmuid Critchley, Stephen Comerford, Jack o' Neill, Noel Lawlor, Matiss Zaharius, Conor Mc Govern, Senan Keane, Kelvin Tsang, Thomas Murphy, Ian Dowling, David Hunter, Jose Marcos.
