Stepping Stones Programme by KYS

Kildare Youth Services (KYS) would like to invite young people in First Year back to the project for a post engagement programme. The young person does not have had to be in the programme during the summer. Post Engagement can follow the Summer Programme (usually when the
school term starts) and one of the main aims is to encourage the Young People to avail of ongoing peer and Youth Worker support through attending a Youth Group on a regular basis.

The Stepping Stones Programme is run to:

· Make the transition from primary school to secondary school easier for young people.

· Establish a new group into the project.

·Ensure young people seek support with any issues moving to secondary school.

·Address the fears and concerns young people have about moving to secondary school.

·Develop self-confidence, self-esteem, decision making and peer support amongst the participants.

Through the process of Group Work, the Young People are exposed to different models of Youth Work which include personal and social development, character building and, on a more long term basis, critical social education.

We recommend that the group can meet on a weekly basis in an out-of-school environment as regular engagement can assist in school retention. The focus of the group is largely determined and driven by the Young People.

The first session is on Monday the 14th of October in the Hive from 4.30-6.00pm.
