KTCS History Department are Celebrating Black History Month

Black History

Kildare Town Community School are celebrating Black History Month.

October is Black History Month but what is Black History Month?

  • It was started in the USA in 1926 by the historian Carter G. Woodson.
  • It is a way for the African diaspora to highlight Black achievement and Black excellence.

How can you celebrate Black History Month?

  • You can tell your family, friends, or classmates about a Black icon from history that you have learned about.
  • You can read about someone who has achieved amazing things like Christine Buckley or Fredrick Douglas.
  • Look at those creating history now like Rhasidat Adeleke (Irish Sprinter) and Rotimi Adebari (Nigerian- born Irish politician).
  • Check out the Black and Irish podcast on RTE presented by KTCS graduate Amanda Adé https://www.rte.ie/radio1/podcast/podcast_blackandirish.xml
