On Wednesday the 11th of September last Ms Jones’ & MS Bartley’s 6th year Art History class went to visit the Hugh Lane Art Gallery in Dublin – here they had a guided tour of some of the great masterpieces on display. The visit of an art gallery/museum is part of the Art History Appreciation course for the Leaving Cert and the Hugh Lane houses a fantastic collection of Impressionist Paintings including some by Manet, Monet and Renoir, not to mention works of art from our very own Jack B Yeats, Sean Keating and the very impressive Francis Bacon Studio.
Before visiting the museum we stopped off at the Garden of Remembrance across the road to admire the Children of Lir sculpture by artist Oisín Kelly. On returning to Kildare we were given a guided tour of Newbridge Silverware – here we were guided through the design of each product from initial design conception through to finished piece. This proved very interesting as we were given an insight into the early days of this local business.
