Active School Week in KTCS 27th April - 1st May

As you may be aware, the Physical Education (P.E.) Department have been undertaking various initiatives this school year outside of the P.E. class to improve the health of our students. Our latest initiative is to run an ‘Active School Week’ during the 27th April to the 1st of May. Throughout this week, we will have various organisations from the local community in Kildare town coming in to give introductory classes free of charge to some of our P.E. classes. This will hopefully encourage students to form a link with the organisation and continue their participation in that activity. To date, we hope to have representative groups and instructors from the local gyms coming in ranging from Martial Arts, Boxing, Badminton, G.A.A., Soccer, Golf and Athletics. Free swim passes will also be supplied to students who are interested. During this week, students will be allowed access to the gym on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8.20am and after school on Wednesday under the supervision and guidance of a P.E. teacher. Music will be played in the gym hall on those mornings to encourage students to wake up and dance before school starts. On Wednesday, there will also be a first year soccer blitz for any participating first year student, taking place immediately after school from 4.00 to 5.30pm. Other fun activities will be taking place during lunch times that week to include a free throw competition in Basketball and a penalty shootout, to name but a few.
Please encourage your child to become involved in this initiative, where possible. All exercise is beneficial and even actively travelling to school safely by walking or cycling will help make your child to become more physically active.

Sports Day

Sports Day in KTCS took place on Friday 9th of May. There was great participation and keen competition by all students. Some winners who were awarded their medals on Tuesday and Wednesday, 21st and 22nd of May were Jamie Carr and Sarah Fitzsimons, the Fun Run Winners, Kenneth Murphy who captained the soccer team and Stephen Walsh who captained the basketball team. The PE department would like to thank all students and staff for their co-operation and participation on the day.

Rugby in KTCS

KTCS put out three teams for the first time this year, U16 boys, 1st Year boys and Girls Tag Rugby. There was some great individual and team displays throughout the year especially from the girls tag rugby team who finished second in Leinster and just lost out in the final. Special mention must go to Fionn Heffernan (2nd Year) and Niamh Hopkins (1st Year) who received the male and female player of the year respectively.

Snooker in KTCS

The winners of the first snooker competition in KTCS were Mr. Lyons and Óisín Considine. They bet Kenneth Murphy and Robert Fortune in the Final. We look forward to running the completion again next year. All entries are welcome from both students and teachers.
