Our first Leaving Cert. Applied (L.C.A.) class started at the beginning of this academic year and we had a very busy but enjoyable year.
The L.C.A. is divided up into four sessions over 2 years.   Year 1 comprises of two sessions, the first of which runs from September to mid-January with Session 2 running from mid-January to June of 2014.
Year 2 comprises of a further two sessions with Session 3 running from September to mid-January and Session 4 running from mid-January to June 2015.
The LCA differs from the traditional Leaving Certificate in so far as credits are awarded on-going over each of the four sessions.
Some of the subjects (“modules”) covered are:
English & Communications, Craft & Design, Mathematical Applications, Hair & Beauty, Vocational Preparation & Guidance, Spanish/Irish, Hotel Catering & Tourism, Social Education, Graphics & Construction Studies, Leisure & Recreation, Religious Education and Personal Reflection Tasks.
Various tasks are undertaken in different modules.   As part of the Social Education module our students carried out a very worthwhile task entitled “ Message in a Bottle”.  This was done in conjunction with Newbridge Lions Club and proved to be a great success.
In February, as an out of school activity, the students were brought to the RDS in Dublin to attend “The National Beauty Show”, as part of the Hair and Beauty module and they also took a trip to visit the Midlands Prison as part of the Social Education Module.
I would like to wish all our students the very best of luck in their forthcoming exams and come back refreshed after the Summer holidays.
