Vocational Guidance

St Conleth’s in Newbridge addressed 6th years on the 8 Post leaving Certificate courses available for 6th year students at the college. St Conleth’s will not be holding interviews this month and will make their offers based on leaving Certificate results.

Sgt Neil Richardson and 5 Defence forces personnel addressed 6th years on the Army Reserve. Students can develop many transferrable skills and can greatly add to their CV as well as receive payment for their duties by joining the reserve.

The SUSI grant system has opened and students who have been deemed that they may be eligible have commenced their applications on www.susi.ie. Information on the 1916 scholarship and the Kildare Credit union bursary is available on the Guidance noticeboard.

The CAO change of mind system will open and students can change their minds and add or remove courses from May 6th until July 1st 2019. 6th year students are meeting the GC to discuss their college options and ensure they have made effective plans for next year. The IT room will be open for 6th years at lunchtime on Wednesday next under the supervision of the GC to allow students access their accounts/ change their minds etc.

6th year Students have applied for apprenticeship programmes with DSV, Tegral Dublin BUS, local restaurants and ESB and will be interviewed for these positions shortly.

58 fifth year students went on the Colleges tour of DCU & TCD on 30-04-2019. Students saw the facilities at the colleges and attended talks on a variety of career areas.

5th year students who intend to travel to the Higher Options conference in September must purchase a ticket for €10 before the end of this school year.

Information is available in the Guidance lobby on summer schools for 5th years in universities & IT’s. Maynooth University are offering the school 2 places on their Entrepreneurship summer school from July 8th-12th 2019 and interested students should contact Ms Urell ASAP.

Students who wish to attend the Open day at RACE jockey/farrier/horsemanship school on May 14th should bring in €2 and give names to the GC. Students interested in work experience in this area should also give names to GC.

Educational Guidance

Educational Guidance is available for all students who are changing levels or considering course options in the school.

Personal Guidance continues to be available to all students who may be experiencing difficulties.

Mindfulness has been made available in the Prayer room on Wednesdays at 11.55 for 6th years to help with relaxation, concentration, positivity and stress reduction.
