KTCS reach Junk Kouture Regional Finals
Junk Kouture is a nationwide competition in which teams from secondary schools come together to create a wearable outfit of high end fashion. A group of students from Kildare Town Community School came together to design a dress made of various materials, including coffee filters, lace curtains and beads from jewellery.
The team consisting of Sinead Reid, Shannon O’Shea and Dean Morgan have made it through to the regional final on March 3rd.

This is their first time to enter the competition and they are delighted to get through to the Regional Finals. All work carried out after school was over. Their teachers are Edel Bartley and Mairead Murphy.
Blurb from TY Student Sinead McNamara
Our team met up after school to work on the costume. We started off with the base of the dress by sticking beads and pearls to the shoulders to add bling, we then put coke can tabs along the straps. We added broken pieces of CDs to the front to give the top a mirror effect. This helped to make it look edgy. Then from the waist down we stuck on coffee filters which had been stained with coffee and scrunched up into small flowers. This helped to give the dress dimension. A lot of “coffee filter” flowers had to be used to achieve the fullness of the dress. The brown stained coffee colour gives the dress a rustic feel. The last part we completed was the headpiece. We used wire shapes as the base and stuffed the wire shapes with black paper to give it a black colour.
Overall the dress turned out a success and all the team members enjoyed planning and executing the project. Our completed dress is now on show in our school canteen.
1st Year Basketball
On the 16th of February the KTCS Boys 1st year basketball team was playing their final group game against St.Conleth’s Community College. The nerves were getting the better of them in the 1st quarter as they were trailing 4-2.Coming into the 2nd quarter, the confidence began to grow with a couple of scores coming from Thomas Staunton and Darragh Nevin. KTCS then took control of the game by dominating the 3rd and 4th quarters through some excellent plays which included a 3 point buzzer by CJ Merrins. The final score was 24-11 to KTCS. Well done to all involved. Thanks to coaches Ms.Russell and Ms. Murphy and to assistant coaches Colin English and James Ebbs. The French Dept. is taking part in an e-Twinning project with a secondary school in Montpellier in France during the 2016-2017 academic year. The purpose of e-Twinning is to develop a platform for schools in Europe to collaborate with each other and develop links with a partner school. First year students have already written pen pal letters to French students their own age, as a first step in the project. The aim of the project is to help students improve their skills in the language and increase their awareness of French culture. The focus of the project will be to compare students’ ideas about their partner country. First year students are looking forward to receiving the replies from their pen pals, after the mid-term break.
The second year French students had a great school tour in Paris over the Mid Term Break.
